New Paper Published in Digital Business: “Mapping the digital landscape: A bibliometric analysis of digital ecosystem research”
We are excited to announce the publication of a new paper, “Mapping the digital landscape: A bibliometric analysis of digital ecosystem research”, in the journal Digital Business (IF: 7.2). The paper has been authored by Arne Jeppe, Tim Brée, Erik Karger, Heike Proff, and Frederik Ahlemann.
Digital ecosystems have emerged as a central paradigm for understanding the complex and interconnected nature of today’s digital landscape. Yet, the rapid growth and interdisciplinary scope of this field have made it difficult for scholars to grasp its overall structure and future trajectory. To address this, our study presents the first large-scale, comprehensive bibliometric analysis of nearly 2,000 publications from the Scopus database. The analysis maps the intellectual foundations of the field, identifies influential contributors and works, and highlights five major thematic clusters: digital transformation and economy, emerging technologies and learning systems, foundational technologies and semantic architecture, human and social interaction in digital spaces, and business strategy and innovation.
Looking ahead, the paper outlines a research agenda that emphasizes adaptive governance, social and environmental sustainability, securing digital infrastructures, and advancing human-centric applications of AI in areas such as healthcare. By providing this holistic overview, the study offers a robust foundation for future research and strategic decisions by scholars, practitioners, and policymakers alike.
